Various forms of distortions that paintings can experience are called cupping, lifting, dents, protrusions, buckling, bulging, creases, blistering and weave interference. Humidity Vapor Treatments are designed to relax and coax planer distortions in the surface of a painting back to its original position. Humidity vapor treatments work by slowly exposing the verso of the canvas support and paint layers to minimal heat, solvent vapors and humidity under a low-pressure vacuum seal. The vacuum slowly draws out the moisture and vapor from the verso over several hours, while the heat and pressure slowly coerce the distortions back to their original positions. The surface of the painting is never exposed to direct moisture or solvent vapors.
